  3. I hope some of the posters of TNM are still available for marriage! (I don't care if it's men, women, child or beast)

I always had the impression that Opeth was boring. I think that I was right.

  6. Opeth is good music to listen to in the background when your writing a report or something. They're like the King Crimson of Black Metal.

Not a bad transition from Metal to Prog rock though.

This is supposed to be an album with clean vocals no? No surprise. I came across another one of those and did fall asleep halfway through.....which is why i say they are a good intro band for people wanting to get into Metal even though some will say "but they are toooo technikalzz man!!".
Don't bands get called out when they switch to an accessible sound? Or a major label? Not saying they are sellouts as i'm not a fan, but isn't it curious? If they were cool guys they would alternate headlining with Katatonia but like with Metallica that will probably never happen in a million years.
Reminding me of headphones, all you NOOOOBSSS need a pair of KSC75s or SR60/80s.

  11. I've never considered them metal anyway. It's about time they were featured here. Spot-on review Bren.

  12. Just listened to it.
This album is definetively not metal at all. For me it can work as background music, I guess [I'd be lying if I said I paid attention to the music the whole time].
I enjoy Akerfeldt's vocals [clean and growled] a lot, that's what I like the most about Opeth.

So, bottom line.... not terrible, not awesome. Just OK like pretty much everything Opeth did in my opinion.

People that hate "long songs for the sake of it" will fucking loathe this.

  14. Writing a blog is getting easy I see.

  15. There were a few really good bits - like the organ/guitar/flute part of Famine and the awesome bit in the middle of I Feel the Dark - but mostly it was like fucking Hex Omega stretched out over a whole album.

Bums. I was hoping for another Damnation.

  16. Heritage isn't a Metal album, It was never intended to be a metal album. Thus why is everyone so butthurt over the fact it isn't?

    @Richard R
Because Opeth are a metal band, and when a metal band wants to make a non metal cd, they usually call it something different so it doesn't fuck up anyone's collection, or ruin their good metal name.

  19. Didn't they already do this in 2003 with Damnation or is it different?

  20. No, this is supposed to be a prog album. As far as prog goes, it doesn't sound too crash hot. Then again, most modern prog is severely lacking in what made prog of the past great: the prog. It's better than shit like Porcupine Tree and Pineapple Thief, at least, but it doesn't hold a candle to Van Der Graaf Generator or Yes.

  21. I really tried to like Opeth but they just bore me.
What's your opinion about Edge of Sanity btw?

  22. ^Edge of Sanity is awesome.

  23. I thought so. At the moment I'm listening to Crimson like there is no tomorrow.

  24. Don't check here often, but this thing's just brilliant. I think you've got a gold format for doing reviews here.

  25. Metal or not, they're a fucking snoozefest. I can sit through an entire Sunn O))) album (the band is the nadir of drone) but can't listen to more than 2 Opeth songs without slipping into deep REM sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's a good album, but it's head music. They can do what the fuck they want though. Obviously. I don't think they've been a straight-up Metal band in years, personally I like that.
