Dying Fetus Releasing Cover Album of Other Death Metal Songs
According to Blabbermouth.net:
"DYING FETUS will release a limited-edition mini-LP this summer. Entitled "History Repeats…", it marks the band's 20th anniversary and sees the group covering tracks from artists who have influenced them (NAPALM DEATH, BOLT THROWER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, PESTILENCE). "History Repeats…" also includes a brand new DYING FETUS track exclusive to this release. The mini-LP is limited to 5,000 copies worldwide and set for a July 19 North American release through FYE stores and Relapse mailorder exclusively."
Wow, it's not like we're completely missing the point of a cover album here or anything. Here's several bands I can think of off the top of my head that have been covered by popular heavy metal acts: Jethro Tull, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Thin Lizzy, The Misfits, KISS, AC/DC. What do all these have in common? They're not metal bands. See, it makes sense to me when a metal band covers a song that isn't metal. Or at the very least, is by a metal band from a completely different genre. (i.e, Arch Enemy performing Iron Maiden's "Aces High".) You take a popular song that is of a completely different style than yours, and then perform it in your style. That, in and of itself, is the very value of performing a cover song. Otherwise, there's no point whatsoever.
This is a death metal band playing death metal songs. Way to fail it, Fetus.

Noooo!! A fave band of mine failing? That sucks freakin balls!!
ReplyDeleteBut when bands follow that rule sometimes the end result is Six Feet Under's AC/DC cover album, which sucked.
ReplyDeletewhats the point of making a cover album when I can listen to the real band it self I only like covers songs when they're performed live I don't want to listen to them on a disc and im sure other people don't neither so this album is completely pointless the only thing good about it is the new song they have on it.
ReplyDeleteHardcore bands do not so obscure covers all the time. Don't hate. As long as it does the original justice, just be glad. Slayer did a covers album... and it ruled.
ReplyDeleteDying Fetus = Grind-core.
ReplyDeleteNone of the bands listed sound anything like Dying Fetus.
That's Not Metal fails again.
GENRE DEBATE! GOGOGO
ReplyDeleteDying Fetus isn't grind core I mean they have some grind core elements in their music but they're are not grind core so Anonymous user you fail......
ReplyDeleteDying Fetus is legendarily death metal, you Alternative Secondary School drop-out. Go change my oil.
ReplyDelete@ApocaLips Slayer's cover album was of punk songs, they are a thrash metal band, I think you missed the point.
ReplyDeleteAnyway if someone changes a song to match their style I'm all for it (as long as that style isn't dubstep) Epica's version of Death's crystal mountain is one of my favourite songs my them.
@Anonymous: Not gonna Genre debate with you. But you're wrong.

ReplyDelete@ Vaginal Discharge he wasn't talking to you.
ReplyDeleteI had a nice, well written argument and this website fucked up. So rather than retype it let me say that you should re-listen to Undisputed Attitude. It's not a metal album. It's a hardcore punk album. So I hit the fucking nail on the head, dude.
ReplyDeleteA "mini-LP"? wouldn't that be an EP?
ReplyDeleteThat, in and of itself, is the very value of performing a cover , getting fear to look.svaginal discharge
