At the beginning of the month, I made the audacious claim that I could get in a fist fight with all the members of Amon Amarth and barely not die, because they would do something as unmetal as wear their own band merch. Right at this moment, I am angry and ashamed enough to win the fight. WTF is this shit:
Amon Amarth has always been one of my favorite metal acts, and from the greatness of Surtur Rising I have heard thus far, this isn't going to change anything; but where do they find the inspiration to cover an MTV suck rock favorite? Did they just want to take the worst possible song they could find and try and make it awesome? Let me know what you think in the comments below, especially if you disagree with me about this so I can fully recognize who isn't metal.
While I agree that SOAD is pretty NOT fucking metal, I love Amon Amarth too much to be angry at them even if they did cover such a shit dick song... Though I'm kind of glad I didn't pre-order the iTunes version that the song is on.

I probably would have like this in 9th grade. This is sad because i had a really shitty taste in music back then. Luckily they buried this turd under several good tracks.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was pretty gay when they let the CoB guitarist have a guest appearance on their last album too. And it was pretty unmetal when Behemoth covered Nine Inch Nails. But every metal band makes those horrible mistakes that they are (should be) ashamed of.
ReplyDeleteThey would have been better served taking a Kanye West song and making a Death Metal song out of it, kind of in the nature of Turisas covering Rasputin. Even better, Rick Astley, then they could be like techno-viking. This isn't a fun song to listen to and only raises my blood pressure in a bad way. I don't want to brave death in the name of Odin over this song, I want to go to the promoter and demand my $25 back and drive home.
ReplyDeleteCovering pop songs with growls is a staple of trendy shitcore bands. I prefer this to Kanye West, but I'd prefer another original (or just no extra songs at all) to this cover.

ReplyDeleteI know SOAD aren't metal but I respect them for what they are and what they play. They are hard to classify and shouldn't be boxed into any broad genre.
